URGENT: RIDGID Framing Nailers Recalled Over Laceration Hazard — What You Need to Know

TTI Consumer Power Tools has issued a recall for approximately 64,000 RIDGID 18V Brushless Framing Nailers—both 21‑degree and 30‑degree models—due to a dangerous defect that may cause nails to fire when the trigger is pulled alone, posing a serious laceration hazard.

Recall at a Glance

  • Hazard: The dual-action engagement system may malfunction, causing the nailer to discharge nails with only the trigger pulled—without contact with the workpiece, which should normally be required.

  • Models Affected:

    • R09894 – 18V Brushless 21° Framing Nailer (Serials: CS21146D220001 – CS24165N220001)

    • R09895 – 18V Brushless 30° Framing Nailer (Serials: CS21275D220001 – CS24165N220001)

  • Action Required: Immediately stop using the nailer. Visit powertools.ridgid.com/recall to confirm if your model is affected and receive a free software repair. TTI will send a prepaid return label; your tool will be updated and returned.

  • Sales Info: Sold via Home Depot, Direct Tools Factory Outlet, and associated websites from July 2021 to May 2025, priced between $329–$389.

  • Status: Fast Track Recall; no laceration injuries reported to date.

Why This Matters — Safeguard Workers and DIY Enthusiasts

Framing nailers are powerful tools used in construction and home improvement. When safety mechanisms fail, the risk extends beyond minor injury — one accidental discharge could cause deep lacerations or puncture wounds, creating life-altering injuries in seconds.

While no injuries have been reported so far, this recall spotlights how essential it is to respect and follow product safety procedures.

KBD Attorneys’ Recall Coverage Continues

At KBD Attorneys, we actively monitor product safety hazards and alert affected consumers as quickly as possible. This TTI nailer recall underscores our broader efforts to cover:

In this latest case, though no injuries have been reported yet, that doesn’t mean none occurred—and it doesn’t prevent potential liability for manufacturing negligence. We’ll continue to track and report similar hazards as part of our consumer protection mandate.

Take Action Now — What You Need to Do

  1. Stop using the nailer immediately.

  2. Visit powertools.ridgid.com/recall to check your serial number.

  3. If affected, use the prepaid label sent by TTI and get your tool updated for free.

  4. If you suspect a defect or near-miss incident, document the details—date, what happened, and the serial number.

Even without reported injuries, legal recourse is still possible if someone is harmed. KBD Attorneys can help victims pursue claims for damages like medical expenses, pain and suffering, and lost wages.

Why Fast Response Matters

Fast Track Recalls like this happen when there’s a latency between defect identification and injury reports. The recall prevents harm before it occurs, but also gives those injured an opportunity to seek justice.

Our blog coverage aims to stop dangerous behavior—and help victims if harm has already occurred.
