Dangerous Hybrid Mattress Warning
CPSC Urges Consumers to Stop Using Fire-Hazardous Mattresses
Unsafe Shein Mattresses Pose Deadly Fire Risk — Here’s What You Need to Know
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued an urgent warning for consumers to immediately stop using 10-inch hybrid mattresses sold by Foshan Shifanshi Furniture Co., Ltd., operating as ShiFanShi on Shein.com. These mattresses violate federal flammability standards for mattress sets and pose a serious risk of fire, injury, or death.
According to the CPSC’s October 23, 2025 product safety warning, about 470 of these unsafe mattresses were sold on Shein.com between December 2024 and April 2025. Despite the government’s notice, ShiFanShi has not agreed to recall the product or provide any remedy to affected customers.
What Makes These Mattresses So Dangerous?
The recalled 10-inch hybrid mattresses fail to meet the mandatory federal flammability standard for mattress sets, which is designed to prevent rapid ignition and flame spread in the event of a fire. Noncompliant materials can ignite quickly, turning a minor spark or heat source into a deadly blaze within seconds.
The company sells the mattresses in twin, full, queen, and king sizes and designs them with a gray knit top panel and black-and-gray side panels.
Labels along the side include the phrase:
“This mattress is intended to be used without foundation or with foundation or foundation(s): WG /& P Foundation.”
Because these mattresses do not meet U.S. safety requirements, they pose a severe fire hazard, especially in homes where smoke alarms or fire suppression systems may not activate in time to save lives.
What Consumers Should Do
The CPSC strongly urges consumers to stop using these mattresses immediately and dispose of them properly.
Do not resell or donate these products — doing so may expose others to harm and could violate consumer safety laws.
If you or someone you know has experienced an incident involving this mattress, report it to CPSC through SaferProducts.gov.
Consumers can also contact Ketterer, Browne & Davani (KBD) Attorneys if they or a loved one have suffered burns, property damage, or other injuries linked to defective or unsafe mattresses.
The Growing Problem of Unsafe Online Products
This incident highlights a growing pattern of dangerous imported products sold through online marketplaces like Amazon, Temu, and Shein — many of which bypass U.S. safety testing and recall obligations.
As more consumers turn to these sites for affordable home goods, unsafe or noncompliant imports continue to slip through the cracks. Foreign sellers often refuse to cooperate with recalls, which limits the CPSC’s enforcement actions and leaves buyers with no clear way to seek refunds or replacements.
