According to the CPSC:

The gloves can overheat or develop hotspots
There have been 137 reports of overheating
At least 119 people have suffered burn injuries
The Chinese manufacturer has not cooperated in issuing a recall
About 58,700 units were sold, posing ongoing risk to the public

How Heated Gloves Can Cause Serious Burns

Heated gloves like the Velazzio Thermo1 use rechargeable lithium-ion batteries to warm internal heating elements. These batteries are powerful—but also volatile. When they malfunction, short-circuit, or overheat, they can generate temperatures high enough to:

Burn the skin directly through the glove material
Create localized “hotspots” that cause severe pain or blistering
Ignite internal components, leading to thermal burns or fires
