Apollo Electric Scooters Recalled Over Dangerous Weld Defect: Fall and Injury Risk for Riders

KBD Attorneys Continues to Expose the Hidden Dangers of Electric Scooters and Fight for Injured Consumers

The popularity of electric scooters continues to surge across the U.S., offering a sleek and speedy alternative to urban transportation. But once again, design and manufacturing flaws have put riders in danger. On July 24, 2025, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced a recall of Apollo City 2024 model year electric scooters after discovering that a weld defect can cause the scooter’s stem to crack and break, leading to serious fall and injury hazards.

At KBD Attorneys, we’ve been tracking dangerous electric transportation products—from scooters to e-bikes—and alerting the public when poorly made vehicles lead to devastating injuries. These recalls are happening far too often, and we are committed to holding manufacturers accountable and helping victims seek justice.

Apollo City Scooter Recall: What You Need to Know

According to the CPSC recall notice about 790 Apollo City electric scooters are affected by the recall. The problem lies in the weld line on the scooter’s stem, which can crack and cause the stem to suddenly break while in use—resulting in falls, crashes, and potential injuries.

  • Appearance: Gray body with front headlight and rear brake light

Another Scooter, Another Recall — A Pattern That Can’t Be Ignored

This is just the latest in a growing list of dangerous electric scooters and personal electric vehicles being recalled for structural flaws, faulty batteries, and risky designs. Whether it’s brakes failing, batteries exploding, or frames cracking, consumers are consistently being sold products that don’t meet basic safety standards.

At KBD Attorneys, we’ve been warning families about these hazards and helping victims who’ve suffered preventable injuries. Scooters and e-bikes should not collapse underneath riders or spontaneously burst into flames—but sadly, that’s become all too common.

Why Are So Many Electric Scooters Failing?

Electric scooters may seem cutting-edge, but many models are plagued by design shortcuts and manufacturing defects. Common problems include:

  • Weak welds or poor materials that break under stress

  • Under-tested components sold to U.S. consumers before rigorous safety assessments

  • Inadequate regulatory oversight, especially for imported products

  • Retailers and online platforms, like Amazon and Best Buy, failing to vet third-party sellers

Consumers are often unaware they’ve purchased a high-risk product until something goes wrong. Even then, many don’t receive recall alerts or know where to turn for help.

A Dangerous Product Should Never Be on the Market

The Apollo City scooters were sold at major national retailers for nearly a year before this defect came to light. If a weld can fail and the stem can snap—essentially causing the front of the scooter to collapse—then the product never should’ve passed quality control or hit the market.

As a law firm that handles defective product litigation, we know how devastating these failures can be:

  • Concussions and head injuries from falls

  • Broken bones or serious abrasions

  • Collisions with traffic after losing control

  • Permanent disability in the worst cases

One reported injury in this case involved abrasions, but the potential for much more severe harm is clear.
