TTI Outdoor Power Equipment Recalls RYOBI Pressure Washers

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued a major recall involving RYOBI electric pressure washers manufactured by TTI Outdoor Power Equipment, Inc. According to the CPSC announcement on August 28, 2025, approximately 764,000 units in the United States, plus an additional 16,000 sold in Canada, are being recalled due to a dangerous projectile hazard.

The Hazard

The affected RYOBI brushless electric pressure washers, models RY142300 (2300 PSI) and RY142711VNM (2700 PSI), have a capacitor that can overheat and burst. When this happens, parts can be violently ejected, posing a serious risk of injury to users and bystanders. Reported injuries include finger and hand fractures, facial injuries, and eye damage.

TTI Outdoor Power Equipment has already received 135 reports of overheating, including 41 cases where the capacitor exploded. At least 32 people have been injured by flying parts.

Remedy

Consumers should stop using these pressure washers immediately. RYOBI is offering a free repair kit that includes a replacement capacitor, shipping, and installation instructions. Proof of purchase is not required. To check eligibility and request a repair kit, visit: www.ryobitools.com/recall.

Other RYOBI Recalls

This is not the first time RYOBI products have been recalled for safety risks. We have previously written about the defective RYOBI Hedge Trimmer Recall.

There is a troubling pattern here: even trusted household brands can release unsafe products into the market, putting consumers at risk.

Injuries and Consumer Safety Risks

The exploding capacitor hazard in these pressure washers is especially concerning because of the force of impact. Consumers reported fractured bones, lacerations, and eye injuries from flying parts. Pressure washers are commonly used for household cleaning, deck maintenance, and exterior washing, which means families—including children—could be nearby when a malfunction occurs.

What to Do if You Own a Recalled Pressure Washer

  1. Check the Model and Serial Number – Locate the data plate on the side of the motor housing to confirm if your washer is included.
  2. Stop Using It Immediately – Do not attempt to operate the pressure washer.
  3. Request a Free Repair Kit – Visit ryobitools.com/recall to submit your information.
  4. Report Incidents – If you experienced a malfunction or injury, report it to the CPSC and keep all documentation.

How KBD Attorneys Can Help

At KBD Attorneys, we represent individuals and families harmed by defective consumer products. Large manufacturers and retailers often put profits ahead of safety, releasing products without adequate testing. This RYOBI recall underscores why legal accountability matters.

Our firm helps clients by:

  • Investigating injury claims linked to recalled products.
  • Filing lawsuits against negligent manufacturers and distributors.
  • Pursuing compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and long-term disability.
  • Advocating for stricter consumer protections to prevent similar hazards in the future.

We know that many consumers blame themselves when a product malfunctions, but in reality, these dangerous design and manufacturing flaws are the responsibility of corporations—not the families who buy and use their products.

Why Recalls Matter

Recalls are an important tool for consumer protection, but they often come too late, after dozens or even hundreds of injuries have already occurred. In this case, thousands of pressure washers were on the market for nearly seven years before the recall was announced. During that time, unsuspecting consumers were exposed to dangerous conditions.

By holding manufacturers accountable, legal action can push companies to act faster, invest in safer product designs, and prioritize consumer well-being over corporate profits.

Final Thoughts

The recall of over 764,000 RYOBI pressure washers is a reminder of the risks posed by defective consumer products. Families who purchased these washers expected safe, reliable equipment—not a device that could explode and cause lasting injuries.
