Recall of 3 Million Air Fryers from Insignia, Cosori and Magic Chef- Risk of Burn Injuries – Air Fryer Recall

Today, we look at one air fryer recall in particular, the PowerXL Air Fryer Recall.

What is the PowerXL Air Fryer Recall?

A company issued a recall for hundreds of thousands of air fryers. The Power XL air fryer recall arose because of a serious burn hazard. Empower Brands, the company behind the PowerXL air fryer recall, issued a recall of 319,000 units. The Power XL air fryer recall concerns two models of its popular product – the DUAF-10 and DUAF-005 Vortex Dual-Basket Air Fryers.

The hazard is “[t]he plastic U-Channel connector used to optionally combine the two food baskets inside of the air fryers can break during use, posing a burn hazard.” The December 2023 recall noted “The firm has received 41 reports of the product breaking during use, including three reports of burns.”

If you or someone you know has been affected by the PowerXL Air Fryer Recall, it’s important to understand your rights. Our law firm, KBA Attorneys, is investigating air fryer recall cases and can help those impacted by defective products seek compensation for their injuries, including from the Power XL air fryer recall.

The Air Fryer Recall: What Happened?

Empower Brands recalled two models of their PowerXL Dual Basket Air Fryers—the DUAF-10 and DUAF-005—on December 14, 2023. This arose from reports of dangerous malfunctions. For this air fryer recall, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the issue stems from a faulty plastic U-Channel connector. This connector combines the two food baskets of the air fryer into one larger unit. Unfortunately, the connector can break during use, leading to serious burn risks. Hence, the Power XL Air Fryer Recall.

As of the air fryer recall date at issue here, Empower Brands had received 41 reports of product failures. Three of those reports included users suffering burns, further raising concerns about the safety of the product. If you purchased one of these air fryers, you might want to stop using it immediately and contact Empower Brands for a full refund. The defective air fryers were sold nationwide from August 2021 to October 2023 at major retailers like Target, Walmart, and Kohl’s.

Why Defective Products Like Recalled Air Fryers Pose a Serious Risk

When we purchase a product, especially something we use in our kitchens, we trust that manufacturers test it for safety. Manufacturers have a duty to make sure their products meet certain safety standards. However, when manufacturers breach that duty, consumers can be obtain serious injuries. In this case, the defective air fryers present a significant danger to anyone using them, as the broken connector can cause burns and other injuries.

This situation highlights the importance of product liability law, which holds companies accountable for the safety of the products they sell. If a company sells a defective product and that product causes injury, the manufacturer should be liable for the damages. Our team at KBA Attorneys is here to help if you or someone you know has been hurt due to a recalled air fryer or any other dangerous product.

A month before that, the same company recalled the Power XL stuffed wafflizer waffle makers. This was due to a risk of burns. Products can cause serious burn injuries. Burn injuries can range from temporary pain to life-long disfigurement, amputation, scarring, and other consequences.
