Mammut Recalls Skywalker Pro Climbing Sets Over Deadly Fall Risk
Mammut Recalls Skywalker Pro Climbing Sets Over Deadly Fall Risk
Outdoor climbing is a thrilling but inherently risky activity. That’s why climbers rely so heavily on their gear—not just for performance, but for survival. When that gear fails due to poor design or defective manufacturing, the consequences can be fatal.
On June 12, 2025, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced a critical recall of the Skywalker Pro Via Ferrata climbing sets from Mammut Sports Group Inc., a well-known manufacturer of high-performance alpine and outdoor gear. The reason: a serious fall hazard that could lead to catastrophic injury or death.
At KBD Attorneys, we fight for victims harmed by dangerous and defective products, including climbing gear, industrial equipment, and household items. We are dedicated to informing the public about hidden risks—like this one—and ensuring that companies are held accountable when they fail to protect the people who trust their products.
What Was Recalled?
According to the CPSC recall notice, the recall applies to approximately 580 units sold in the United States, with an additional 42 sold in Canada.
The affected products include:
-
Skywalker Pro Via Ferrata Sets
-
Skywalker Pro Turn Via Ferrata Sets
-
Skywalker Pro Via Ferrata Packages
These sets are used by climbers tackling via ferrata routes—protected climbing paths with fixed cables, rungs, and ladders embedded into rock faces. The sets feature a blue cord and an orange and gray carabiner, designed to attach the climber to a safety cable.
The specific model numbers included in the recall are:
-
2040-02840
-
2040-02850
-
2040-02870
These numbers are on a tag inside the product pouch. If you or someone you know owns one of these sets, stop using it immediately and follow Mammut’s return instructions.
What’s the Danger?
The carabiner, a critical safety device, can be opened without engaging the safety latch, according to the recall announcement. That means a climber could detach from the cable system without warning, especially under the dynamic forces of a fall or shift in weight.
This type of failure defeats the entire purpose of using a via ferrata set in the first place: to stay clipped in at all times. If a carabiner fails mid-climb, the consequences are immediate and potentially fatal—especially at high altitudes or on difficult terrain.
While no injuries have been reported yet, the potential risk is so severe that the manufacturer, Mammut Sports Group Inc., issued the recall under the CPSC’s Fast Track Recall program.
Where Were These Products Sold?
The recalled climbing sets were sold through:
-
Jackson Hole Mountain Resort (Wyoming)
-
Campsaver (Utah)
-
Other outdoor and recreation stores nationwide
-
Online channels from February 2023 through March 2025
-
Priced between $150 and $280
The importer, Mammut Sports Group Inc., is based in Williston, Vermont, and the products were manufactured in Switzerland.
What Should Consumers Do?
Consumers are urged to immediately stop using the recalled climbing sets. Mammut is offering a full refund and providing prepaid shipping labels for returning the defective items.
To initiate the refund process:
-
Email: warranty.usa@mammut.com
-
Include your name, contact info, and model details if possible.
-
You will receive instructions on how to send the gear back and get your refund.
Even if you have not experienced a malfunction, do not continue using these products. The risk is too high.
KBD Attorneys Is Watching These Recalls Closely

If you were injured using a recalled climbing or outdoor product, you may be entitled to:

-
Lost income or future earning potential
-
Punitive damages in cases of gross negligence
Whether your injury occurred on a climbing route, hiking trail, or elsewhere, our legal team has the experience to take on major manufacturers and their insurers.
Climbing Is Dangerous — Your Gear Shouldn’t Make It Deadlier
It’s one thing for adventurers to accept the natural risks of mountaineering and climbing. But no one should have to worry about their gear failing due to design flaws.
Carabiners, ropes, and safety harnesses are engineered specifically to mitigate risk, not introduce more of it. That’s why recalls like this are so serious—and why companies that distribute defective equipment must be held accountable.
Why Product Liability Lawsuits Matter
Defective product cases serve several purposes:
-
Compensate victims and families for preventable harm
-
Uncover negligence in manufacturing or design
-
Encourage companies to improve safety standards
-
Prevent future tragedies
At KBD, we’ve taken on many corporations across the United States to enforce these standards and protect consumers from dangerous products.
