Are you still using 1 of the 4 million deadly, recalled Fisher-Price Rock’n Play baby sleepers?

Use of infant sleepers have killed babies in America. It has been years since the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recalled the Fisher-Price Rock’n Play baby sleepers. Since then, dozens of infants have died. We fear more innocent children will keep dying. In fact, the number of deaths has increased significantly since the first recall in the spring of 2019, after the recall!

A consumer reports investigation by Lauren Kirchner examined why the deaths persist

Since the spring 2019 recalls of the Fisher-Price Rock’n Play infant sleeper and the Kids2 recalled infant rocking sleepers, many more children have died. A consumer report investigator examined why.

First, the problem with the product. “These sleepers put a baby on an inclined sleeping surface, which increases the risk of suffocation if their head drops forward,” commented Lauren Kirchner, Consumer Reports Investigative Reporter. In other cases, the infants may have died due to rolling from their back to their stomach or side while unrestrained, or under other circumstances. As reported, “To keep your baby safe, the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends babies be put to bed only in products that meet federal safety requirements for infant sleep, such as a bassinet, crib or play yard.”

The next reason is the recall effectively precludes future sales, but the product remains in people’s homes. “According to Mattel, Fisher-Price’s parent company, as of last March, only 9.5% of the Rock ‘n Play Sleepers had been accounted for since the recall. In other words, more than 4 million recalled sleepers are potentially still in use.”

According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, “70 more deaths have been reported since the recall, including at least 8 fatalities that were reported to have occurred after the initial recall announcement.”

It is unbelievable that these dangerous products are still in use. The next victim could be you, your unaware family member, friend, or coworker.

Consumers May Have Legal Claims from the Original Purchase to the Continued Failure to Remove Them from the Market Effectively

The infant sleepers did not belong on the market in the first place. Now, years after the recall, one could likely make the case that there has been a failure to notify the public of the recall, its reasons, and possible deadly consequences. Per industry standards such as the International Standards Organization (ISO), companies should have a system in place to notify consumers after purchases of safety concerns. If the public doesn’t hear much about the recall, the company’s reputation remains intact, the product sits in homes or other places, but babies keep dying behind the scenes!

It’s time to put a stop to that! Consumers like you have had enough.
