Bio Ionic Curling Iron Recall
Bio Ionic Curling Irons Recalled for Burn Hazard After Hundreds of Reports of Barrel Detachment
Over 350,000 styling tools pulled from shelves after reports of barrels snapping off mid-use
In a major recall affecting beauty enthusiasts and salon professionals alike, J & D Brush Co., of Commack, New York, has issued a nationwide recall of about 357,000 Bio Ionic One-Inch-Long Barrel Curling Irons due to a burn hazard. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the barrels on these curling irons can snap and detach during use, potentially exposing users to hot surfaces and causing burns.
The recall, announced on October 23, 2025, also includes approximately 3,000 units sold in Canada. The affected model is the Bio Ionic One-Inch-Long Barrel Curling Iron (model LXT-CL-1.0), featuring date codes between 0722 and 1223.
According to the CPSC recall notice, consumers have reported 258 incidents of the barrel detaching, with six confirmed minor burn injuries.
Details of the Recall
The recalled curling irons measure approximately 15.8 inches long and have a black handle and barrel with a blue “BIOIONIC” logo. The date code is engraved on the plug’s prongs in the format MMYY.
The product was sold at major retailers including:
- Amazon
- BioIonic.com
- Ulta
- Sephora
- Nordstrom
- Salon Centric
- Salons and beauty supply stores nationwide
The curling irons retailed for about $165 between August 2022 and July 2024.
Consumers are urged to stop using the recalled product immediately, unplug it, and register for a free replacement through Bio Ionic. Those participating in the recall will be asked to cut off the plug and send it back using a prepaid shipping label provided by the company.
Why This Recall Matters
For millions of consumers, hair styling tools are part of their daily routine — but defective products like these can turn routine grooming into a serious safety hazard. Curling irons can reach temperatures well above 350°F, and if the barrel detaches unexpectedly, users can sustain severe burns to the face, neck, hands, or scalp.
Even minor burns can lead to infection, scarring, and long-term sensitivity, particularly when caused by high-heat appliances. In salon settings, where stylists may use these tools multiple times a day, the risks multiply.
The CPSC’s “Fast Track” recall designation means that Bio Ionic and J & D Brush acted quickly once reports emerged — but the large number of affected units underscores how dangerous product flaws can go unnoticed for months or years before being addressed.
