Important Recall for John Deere ZTrak Zero Turn Mowers
Important Recall for John Deere ZTrak Zero Turn Mowers with Kawasaki Engines
John Deere has issued a recall for approximately 39,000 ZTrak Zero Turn mowers equipped with Kawasaki engines due to a serious fire and burn hazard. The issue with the mower is that there is a defect in the engine’s voltage regulator. The defect can cause a failure during use or while in storage, causing the engine to overheat. This malfunction has resulted in five reported fires and 26 incidents of melting or smoking, although no injuries have been reported so far.
Which John Deere ZTrak Zero Turn Mowers Models Are Affected?
This recall applies to John Deere ZTrak models Z720E, Z730M, Z740R, and Z760R with Kawasaki engines. These models were sold between October 2018 and September 2024. Check the serial number on the right side of your mower near the rear tire to see if it matches the recalled range:
These mowers, known for their green and yellow design, are widely used for residential and commercial lawn care. Consumers are urged to check the model and serial numbers of their mowers, as listed in the recall details, to determine if their unit is affected.
What Should Owners of John Deere ZTrak Zero Turn Mowers Do?
If you own one of the recalled mowers, you should immediately stop using it and contact an authorized John Deere dealer for a free repair. Both John Deere and Kawasaki Motors are reaching out to known purchasers to facilitate the recall process. Owners can also visit the respective company websites or call the provided hotlines for additional information. The recall highlights the importance of addressing potential hazards in critical equipment promptly to prevent accidents or injuries.
If you experience difficulties obtaining a repair or believe your remedy request is not being handled appropriately, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) offers resources for submitting complaints. Taking action quickly can ensure your safety and prevent further incidents.
KBA Attorneys has Experience in Products Liability Burn Injury Cases
If you have been the victim of a burn injury due to a product exploding, catching on fire, or becoming too hot, contact KBA attorneys for legal advice. Burn injuries are a unique type of injury, as burns are often presented by a delayed onset, and the seriousness of the injury often takes several days to fully manifest. Burn injuries, specifically 3rd degree burns and higher, are almost always permanent in nature due to the degree and permanency of scarring that they cause.
KBA’s attorneys have successfully litigated and resolved several burn injury cases on behalf of injured clients, the most recent of which involved a lady from Florida who was severely injured after an electric blanket overheated, causing 2nd and 3rd degree burns. Attorney Robert Price handled that case to successful resolution.
“In my experience, you need an aggressive advocate from the get-go that can walk you through the process,” says Price. “Immediately, these product manufacturers and distributors are going to try to make the accident look like your fault to try and cover up the tracks. Once we locate the defect, my clients are often so relieved at discovering that they didn’t do anything wrong.” Price emphasized accident reconstruction. He advises clients, “keep in mind we have to tell the manufacturer that we know and are prepared to tell a jury exactly what happened. We must reconstruct the incident in every way we can. Pictures speak 1,000 words.” Contacting an attorney ASAP after a burn incident is key so they can guide you through the steps and help you preserve evidence, take pictures, and prepare a file while the incident is fresh.
